Now Glasgow has finally moved into 2, we can make some changes to our runs.
We are really excited to have things getting back to something that looks a bit more normal – and of course, for people from outside the city to come and run with us again. The rule change means we can run in bigger groups of up to 50 people – but we do still need to keep to the 1:12 ratio of run leaders to runners. Luckily, we have lots of brilliant run leaders ready so this shouldn’t pose any problems. This means: Mondays, we will have one group of 50 at 6pm One group of 50 at 7pm Fridays, we will have the return of Daylight Running, with one group of 50 at 12.30pm One group of 50 at 6pm. There is no need to divide yourselves up by time – this will happen naturally as we set off. Wednesday reps We know that the last year has been hard and lots of people haven’t been running much, or have recently joined the club and might be a bit nervous at the thought of reps – so on Wednesday, we have a brand new “return to running” group. The group will be smaller, and the sessions will be fun and geared towards getting you confident and happy. You’ll be following a six week plan especially designed by Colin and he’ll be available for extra support during the sessions. Also on Wednesdays, there will be another two groups (therefore 3 in total) – one for a 5k time of 25 minutes and under, and one for more than 25 minutes – be brave if you are hovering at 25 and go in the first group! All the groups will keep meeting at 7pm. Just book in on the app and we’ll post the information on where to go and what to do on there. Social distancing is not required once we have started running, but you should still maintain distancing before and after the session has ended. Remember some people are just returning to the club and might be nervous about people getting too close – so be kind and give everyone some space (we know you all will). Don’t forget our Midsummer Madness week beginning on June 21. It promises to be lots of fun and a great way to reconnect with the club and the running community. We really hope to see lots of old and new faces over the coming weeks. We have missed everyone so much. Remember if there is anything that is bothering you about coming back – maybe you are worried about being slower, or you have struggled with injuries, or you have forgotten how to talk to people away from a Zoom screen – talk to us. You can drop the running forum a message ([email protected]) and we’ll do all we can to make it easier for you. We’ll keep an eye on how everything is working over the coming weeks – so do let us know how you are finding it. Many thanks – looking forward to seeing you all in the coming weeks. Hi Everyone.
I hope you are all keeping safe and well in these hard times - seems so long ago that we were all able to run together but rest assured those days will come again!!! I thought now would be a good time to let you know about something that has been happening behind the scenes …….. A few months ago the club formed a new Running Forum to support the members and the committee and it was my pleasure to be asked to Chair the forum (for those who don’t know me I am the one that sometimes comes along and shouts at you on a Wednesday whilst Colin is away). The other members of the forum are - Graeme Jack Graham Thom Cordelia O’Neill Tracey Longhurst Jim Speakman Rhona Boat Sarah Berry Sarah Jones Jane O’Brien Craig Boyle Joe Lennon Stephen Brown David Gray Allen Campbell Lindsey Shields Waters And what an awesome team they are ….. One of the first things decided by the forum was our primary purpose and with that our agreed mission statement is - WE EXIST TO SUPPORT AND FACILITATE ALL MEMBERS WITH THEIR RUNNING GOALS REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY MAY BE! This is very much to back up the ethos of the club - open and inclusive. Over the past few months the forum has been working really hard to pull together a summary of all of the opportunities that the club can provide to ALL of the members - we are keen that all members have the platform to follow their running goals over the various types of running such as road, trail, x-country, chatty running, social running etc etc. We were getting close to finalising all of this before lockdown hit us and now for obvious reasons some of the events that we might have linked into as a club have all now been postponed / will be rearranged at a future date. There will therefore be much more on all of this in due course with loads planned for the website - all of this will follow when the time is right. When we are in a position to get back together again the first few weeks of running will be all about just being together - no pressure, no PBs - just catching up with your running pals and finding your running mojo! Simon Simon Murrison We got news...! In the season where she made her international debut, the awesome
Ana Richardson has been ranked FOURTH in the UK 2019/20 Cross Country Rankings in the F50 category. Congratulations Ana!👏🙌✊ Full rankings are here: https://www.athleticsweekly.com/…/cross-country-rankings-…/… Our first Zoom Wednesday WERRtual session. We had around 50 people doing Colin's fantastic session 😊😂🙌 Some awards! Best background: Ruth Stocks. Highest jump: Emma Wright. Best use of WERRtual technology: Luc (in France) and James (in England). Lovely to see the WERRs and their families😢 Video and photos below. Hope it made you smile We’ve had new guidance from Scottish Athletics this morning and must suspend WERR training sessions for now. This will be reviewed on a week by week basis.
The training schedule will continue to be published with the proviso that members do not run in groups but individually as long as current advice allows. In the meantime we now have WERRtual home work outs and rep sessions from our coach Colin on this link. Chin up and stay healthy!
