This year's Hogmanay Handicap road run will take place on Sunday 30th December at 11am.
This friendly local run is around 4 miles long and is a handicap race, so you will be asked your expected time, or your 5K time, and will be set off accordingly. Run leaves from the West Of Scotland Rugby Club in Milngavie over an, err, undulating route.:-) There will be a collection for Strathcarron Hospice as an entry fee. . A lovely relaxed morning at Mugdock Country Park, followed by the London Marathon draw................congratulations to Isobel Diamond! You are running the VMLM in 2019!
Schedule summary for the festive period:
For anyone who hasn't experienced it before, don't panic, we don't make you eat more turkey. But we do let you run or jog it off!
This popular event is a very social run at Mugdock Country Park. All welcome, friends, families, pets. Relaxed pace, lots of lovely chatting.
Stick some cash in your running tights as it's followed by Tea/Coffee, Bacon Butties/Cake and the London Marathon Ballot Draw at Mugdock Garden Centre Coffee Shop ...it's only Eilidh Doyle!! Eilidh is the the most decorated Scottish athlete in Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth competition and she sent her personal best wishes to the mighty WERR! Thanks to Eilidh for taking the time to say hello and we would love to welcome her to the club for a visit next year. We know, 2018 isn't even over with yet and we're talking 2019 but a few WERRs have signed up to this January 10K to keep the motivation going. It's apparently a beautiful race and whilst reports vary between "flat" and "subtle hills" it's a nice one to have in the calendar.
Sign up here... www.entrycentral.com/event/100236 An amazing WERR story from Fiona Quayle... Early 2018 I tried to get back into running after a 2 year break and physio for back/hip problems but struggled to get motivated to run. Wanting to build back up slowly I joined one of the WERR newbies groups. Even as a runner with previous experience I can't recommend the newbies group enough, it's incredibly well run, friendly and supportive. Since moving to the main group I've run better than ever before, smashing previous personal bests and running tricky routes I wouldn't have been motivated to do on my own....not to mention dropping 3 dress sizes in the process :-). If you're looking for a friendly, sociable club with room for every type of runner you can't get better than WERR. Thank you once again to the amazing Social Committee who surpassed themselves this year with the Christmas Night Oot! There was dancing, snax, games, tellings off and lots of lovely chat. :-)
Any pics (that people are willing to share!) please pass them on. Once again WERR have one Club entry place for the 2019 London Marathon. Email Cathy if you want your name to go in the hat ([email protected]). It’s open to all WERR members.
We’ll pull the lucky name out of the hat after the annual WERR Turkey Run. Don’t worry if you can’t make the Turkey Run, just make sure your name’s in the hat. |
